EURO 2008 Quarter finals:
PORTUGAL 2-3 GERMANY
![]()
So sad
, the team i was supporting for this EURO was ousted of this competition last night after a brilliant game in Basel, Switzerland.
The game was very good one, but Germany took the most of it in the first half itself when Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose scored two brilliant goals in the span of four minutes. The European Championship had slipped away from my favorites by that time. But still, the Portuguese were looking for a fight back and struck one back in the first half itself. It was really looking like they would come back and I was hoping that too. But in the second half, due to some miserable play, they couldn’t score and Michael Ballack scored one more time and that was another nail in the Portuguese coffin! Nani and Helder Postiga were substituted later and they looked as if they could turn the match but still they couldn’t do much to avoid Portugal from going back home even though Postiga scored a brilliant goal with the help of Nani.
Anyways, now the game is over and my tournament favourites have gone home. So, its time to root for some other team that looks as if they have a potential to lift the Cup. Looking at the matches so far, it seems as that I would be going with the Oranje! The Dutch really have made themselves one of the tournament favorites by their display against the World Cup 2006 finalists. But watching the group stage rankings, Spain are also showing off themselves as a worthy competitor, but it can also be a repeat of Euro 2004 where the underdogs like Greece came out to win the Cup. Even though Greece is out of the tournament in the group stages itself with a humiliating standings for a defending champion, there is one more team that has already given a surprise show against Sweden, Russia.
As I said earlier, I would be rooting for Netherlands now. I really hope that Van Basten’s men bring the Euro Cup to their home. So, lets see, how long do I get to support for this team.
ORANJE ORANJE ORANJE
