Idiotic Indian Ads

11 04 2010

Hello blog! I am back here to have a look at you. I have been missing from this scene for quite a long time as usual. Always thought of updating something here but as usual I was lazy to do so. Today I guess this blog should consider himself lucky that I have finally landed here. :)

Ok! So I start with the topic which I want to blabber about over here. Recently with the IPL season going on, I am getting a chance of watching the matches on the TV in my room. Its only because of the IPL I am able to watch SetMax (that too.. clearly) as otherwise there will be some other Sun, Raj, Vijaya, etc TV on the same channel! :P

As the matches go on, I am getting a chance of watching the latest advertisements on TV too. So this post is actually for those selected few remarkable advertisements which have crossed the limits of stupidity. Well, there might have been many more idiotic and worse ads than the ones I would be writing about but still after being bombarded by such ads in every break during the each and every IPL match I watch, I just wanted to write about their stupidity somewhere. And moreover, neither Twitter nor Facebook status will handle such long updates (and no.. i dont use the notes feature on facebook! ;) )  so I have finally turned to my blog!! ;)

And here go my special recommendations!

TATA DOCOMO:

Tata Docomo came into market with its nice new kind of animated advertisements which had the letters dancing over to a interesting tune (which started getting irritating after listning for many times). But recently their ads have become so irritating that I would better prefer to change the channel for those 30seconds!

Their Ads for those stupid every day ads are in my opinion so idiotic and irrelevant that I am still wondering about the actual topic of the advertisement! :P Special mentions of the ad with 3 guys playing with their remote-controlled cars in the parking lot! I mean.. WTF is wrong with them to play toy-car racing in a parking lot? Do they have no other job?? Atleast go and watch the IPL matches and get a life u idiots! :P

Well, the other ads in this series are also a super mental-torture for the audiences(at least in my case) I guess. So better stop talking about it here. ;)

LG INFINIA LED TV:

This is another remarkable advertisement where Akshay Kumar brings a girl to his house and shows her that he owns so many things which are later shown as actually playing on many TV screens!

But here I have a question! Well, if he hadn’t wasted that much money on those TV screens, he could actually be owning some of those things which are just an illusion. Atleast he could have brought an actual super-bike or car and instead of just showing off, he could have taken the girl in that bike or car! I bet the girl would have been more pleased! :P

MAXX MOBILE:

The Maxx Mobile advertisements where M S Dhoni shows off his stolen mobile phone are such lame ones! I mean, it was ok to show one ad with the lost cellphone theme, but making it more than one just gives a feeling that Dhoni is a complete idiot who doesn’t know to take care of his mobile. :P And if the mobile phone is so good that it is sure to get stolen, I would rather not buy it! :P

KARBONN MOBILES:

This is one of the ads which pops up even in the middle of any over being bowled during the match. Its is so irritating to see Virender Sehwag and Gautam Gambhir doing bad acting and that is actually one of the reasons that I don’t support Delhi Daredevils I guess! :P

HAVELLS:

Now these guys have come up with the most idiotic ad campaigns recently. Well, I admit that “Upar wala bachaaye naa bachaaye…. Ye Upar wala jarur bachaayega!” is actually a funny tagline to show the energy saving fans but one of the ads where the full family gets an electric shock is just plain stupid and irritating! :P

MICROMAX MOBILES:

This is the most irritating of them all! The one with Akshay Kumar and his Devil’s Laughter! I bet that even Gabbar Singh would have ran away from RamGarh if he had heard this kind of laughter! This ad  takes the viewer to the peak of emotional attyachaar and with the destruction shown in that kitchen of theirs, the viewer’s could actually feel like doing the same with their TV sets! :P

So, these were my recommendations for the special few ads to be avoided at any cost! If you haven’t yet seen any of the above mentioned ads yet, consider yourself lucky, but if you are a TV watcher I can assure you that these ads will catch you for sure! :P

By the way.. YAY! I have finally completed one more post on my blog! My blog will be feeling so happy right now I guess!! :P And until I think of coming back to my blog next time, I hope I get at least some views to this one! :P

In the world of social-networking

11 01 2010

Finally, once again I am back on my blog…

And this being my first post of this decade…. better late than never… I wish everyone

A Very Happy New Year 2010!

“Social-Networking” thats the thing which each one is busy doing online these days. For me and many of my friends I guess it started from “orkut” and it has turned to “facebook” and “twitter” now.

I  started with orkut initially and it was just somewhere by the end of 2008 that I tried facebook and just last year I joined in to twitter! :)

I remember that it was a time when orkut was new and was the subject of many conversations in my 12th standard days! Afterwards it was like, “WTF? you are not on orkut?? How come?” :P Later this trend faded down and it was the time for facebook to jump in… :D

Orkut started becoming a bore with some lack of interactivity when compared to facebook! The first reaction of everyone who joined facebook was “WTF is going on??? :( After getting used to the rather plain nature of orkut, it was really difficult to understand what the hell facebook was as it consisted of just updates and more updates from everybody else.  And once this facebook-bug started catching up, all the orkut people started joining this bandwagon! :) And in some more time it was “Facebook FTW! Orkut WTF!” :P

The latest one to join in this list is twitter. I started tweeting last year with my friend @saurabh_s_ who joined at the same time too. At first it was pretty boring as it had nothing but status updates which was much more fun on facebook that time considering the fact that I have about 300 friends over there and about half of them are surely active users. :)

But as time passed, I got used to this twitter-thingy! Started tweeting random stuff, started following random people who followed me back and we started with interaction. Now I am realising that this too is so much fun. Facebook has been for me as the place where I can meet all the friends which I already have but it is twitter where I am making new friends :) Twitter is much better as you have the option to follow almost anyone and check out their updates. It is surely the fastest source of information transfer these days… Its the daily Breaking News source for me now. “Its not a news if its not on twitter” :D

One of the things I would surely remember about twitter would the #RangChaddiDa movement which was started a day before and was the most interesting thing on twitter for me till now. I would rather not elaborate on it as it has been written about here, here and here already! :)

So for me, the twitter thing is getting more and more interesting these days and for all those who still think that twitter is only status updates and nothing else…. I would say that it would take time to get used to twitter but it is surely worth it once you get used to it!! \m/ :D \m/

Thats it for now…

Find me on facebook and twitter

PS: I dont check orkut nowadays…so plz dont care to find me over there! :P

29 12 2009

Yes, thats the latest movie by Rajkumar Hirani which has become the sensation all around. According to recent reports that I read, it has made a business of a whooping 93crore in its first few days! And thats a huge sum of money for sure! :D

As everyone around might have by now, I too have checked out this movie, not once but twice!! :D And for all those who still haven’t watched it, I have one ‘free-advice’ for you…

” Do yourself a favour, and go watch it now!”

Well, about the movie, as you might have read it everywhere, its absolutely brilliant! Just the kind of movie which is required that would try to change the outlook of people towards education! And sure it is a must watch for all the parents rather than their children alone. :) So, I would stop with that much praise for the movie as I can go on and on. And after watching the movie twice in the theatre, anyone can be pretty sure that I am in love with the movie! :D

But still, as every other movie, there should be some goof-ups in this one too.. And this is my post to spot out the goof-ups that I have observed by watching it the second time.. :)

Thus, for all those who haven’t checked out the movie

SPOILER ALERT!

The movie is no doubt brilliant as I have already told before, but there are some goof-ups which I found out. And considering the fact that Aamir Khan being called “The Perfectionist” in bollywood, its pretty rare to find such flaws with the facts! :)

So to start with, in the beginning of the narration part, Farhan Qureshi (R. Madhavan) states that his birth was in the year 1978 (or somewhere in late 70′s). So, that means considering the fact that the characters are excellent in their studies, they have entered the engineering college somewhere in the late 90′s. Thus, the college part of the movie is set in that time.

To show the correct settings of that time period which is around 10yrs back, the movie correctly shows the number plates of the vehicles in the format of ‘white numbers on black background’. This has been taken care of in the movie but the main big flaw which I spotted and which drives some scenes in the movie is that….. The mobile phone wasn’t a common accessory at that time! It was very rare to see a person with a mobile phone as the charges used to be more than Rs.10/min for an outgoing as well as an incomming call! :D

To add on to the above flaws, considering the same time frame of the movie, we didn’t have an easy access to an online video chat at that time as broadband internet came much late and the wireless one that was used in the movie was recently introduced. Moreover, Youtube was created in February 2005 and it is impossible to access a youtube video then :)

Again one more flaw to add on to the date problems in the movie, Virus (Boman Irani) states that his Space pen was gifted to him some 30 years back. Thus, according to my calculations, it should have been with him somewhere in 1960′s. But, according to this page, these pens were put to use by NASA itself in 1967 and I think it is very difficult to get a gift of the same pen at that time.. ;)

Anyways, this was just the result of me looking at the movie in much more detail and these are just my observations which I pointed out :D

I have no grudge against this movie and I consider it as one of the greatest movies made this year and Rajkumar Hiran FTW! :D

Please feel free to comment if you agree or disagree with any of the observations. :D

I m lovin’ it

8 12 2009

Its been a long time since I wanted to add this thing to my blog so this is quiet a stale topic right now but still I would like to put it up over here as I have nothing else to blabber about.

So, as I have kept telling some of my outings and adventures in Chennai, this is one more of the EUREKA! moments that I recently had.

To start with, Arindam Nath, who is my batchmate, ex-room mate, current project partner and a good friend recently has turned completely into a Chennai-waasi as his family has shifted over here. He stays in some place which is some where Nungambakkam and me and Saurabh are always being invited by him and his parents to his place. But, as we are lazy as well as the place is pretty far (so what if we have a direct bus service from our place, it still seems far to me! ;) ), we have rarely been there. So finally, as I had some work at his place, I had finally gone there somewhere around 2nd-last week of last month. most probably I guess it was 22nd Nov. :) Saurabh was with me that day so it was like an ex-room mate reunion :P

So we were finally at Arindam’s place and he told us that some new mall has opened nearby and it has a McDonald’s in it. Considering the fact that this is only the 3rd McDonald’s outlet in whole Chennai yet (as per my knowledge), we should be going there.  Moreover, after getting used to the McDonald’s crowded city like Mumbai, its a very much home-like feeling for me when I go there. ;)

Thus, we were out to go to that new place. We reached in some time as it was not too far away. There I saw that it was a new mall that has opened and its called “AMPA Skywalk”. We entered the mall and I was like… ” WOW! Finally I am in a mall in Chennai which actually looks like a mall!” (yeah..because till now its just Citi Centre and Spencer Plaza that are well known ‘malls’ over here and they are not so mall-like! :) )

Getting inside, we first checked out  the whole place and were pretty impressed by its size and appeal as it was surely a rare seen in this city for us. :D Later we also came to know that it has a pretty cool food court and a big gaming area is coming up. Looking at the under-construction part above us, I guess some multiplex is also coming up there. Watching all this, me and Saurabh were like… ” We should be more often visitors at Arindam’s place from now on! :D

After checking out the mall, we finally went to the the place for which we actually came there for. Yeah, we went to the McDonald’s restaurant there and it felt so homely to me ( ghar ki yaad aa gayi! ) :P   Had a nice time there with the burger as well as watching Saurabh trying to fit the Chicken Maharaja Mac in his mouth without making a mess! :P Arindam didn’t have a problem with it as I guess it was the Maharaja Mac that was feeling shy this time!! :P

** the above pics were taken by my mobile’s VGA camera as I forgot to take my cam along and could wait to show-off to others that I went to such a place ;) :D

So, a nice place was discovered and after all this we were back to Arindam’s place where we had more fun that night with our cricket match and ghost stories and next day me and Saurabh were back to our respective rooms :D

Ajab Din Ki Ghazab Kahani…

8 11 2009

I can be sure now that there is actually someone who cares to read my blog posts! The reason being, as I was bragging about Chennai being like an oven in  my last post…. the rains have finally arrived here and it has become really cooler now! :)   Google is showing that the current tmperature in Chennai is 24 degree Celsius… I am thinking its lower than that though… but still… after being used to the normal weather conditions over here… 24 is really very cool! :)

Ok, so to start with my adventures for the day…. I will just give a prelude to the upcoming events! :) I haven’t watched any latest movie in a theatre since Kaminey and it has been more than 2 months now…. and yes! 2 months is really a long time for me to stay away from a  theatre! :) So, finally a new movie ‘Ajab Prem Ki Ghazab Kahani’ (APKGK) was releasing on this friday and as it was raining and my college server has gone down, I can’t sit in college :( and sitting in my room is very boring too! One of my friends, Varun was with me yesterday so I asked him whether we go to the movie, but taking a ticket costing Rs.120 was a bad idea, so we cancelled the idea.

And just for the information, in Chennai, there is this very wierd rule about movie tickets… its like, if you go for the ticket early morning somewhere from 6am-9am, in any theatre, the first row seats can be booked for Rs.10 only! ….YES!!…Rs.10!… considering the fact that even a Samosa-Pav costs Rs.7 these days (fact contributed by one of my friends named Punit Shenoy!), a movie for Rs.10 is a frickin-great deal! :D

Thinking about this, we later planned of going to INOX at Chennai Citi Centre early morning the next day and get ourselves tickets for Rs.10! By the way, its not always necessary to stay in line early morning for Rs.10, if you have some contacts, you can get the same tickets later during the day at a bit higher price of Rs.30-50 per ticket! ;) But, as I lost my ‘contacts’ recently after not being there much often, we thought of rather going early morning and getting ourselves the tickets ‘legally!’ :P And later Saurabh also agreed on joining us for the morning trip. So everything was planned and I have very good experiences with most of my recent plans being uber-flop! :)   Anyways, I was waiting for this one now!

Saturday, 7th Nov ’09 morning 5:15am:

Varun calls me to wake me up and I somehow manage to get up and recieve the call (big achievement as I had slept at nearly about 3am being busy playing Audiosurf! ;) ) I later call Saurabh and unbelievably he too gets up! :D (yeah, and FYI, Saurabh has a reputation of usually getting up after 12pm!) After waking him up, I go back to sleep again! :P

About 5.45am:

Varun comes and rings my doorbell at 5.30 and is finally successfull in waking me up. I brush my teeth and we leave.

Outside, its raining from past afternoon and everything is damn wet and cool outside. Equipped with our raincoats, we both need a coffee first and wait for Saurabh to come. Saurabh arrives at our meeting spot (without any kind of protection against rain! :) ) And we start walking from Triplicane to Citi Centre in continuous drizzle!

About 6.15am:

Reached Citi Centre with our hands shivering in cold water! :) The queue has already started for the tickets and we go and join in. Waiting for our turn, thinking….“Humara number kab aayega!” There is some crowd at that place and mostly it can be seen clearly the crowd is mainly of the ‘contacts’ I was talking about! ;)

As our turn comes, we were opting for a 12.30pm show but as all the tickets were already gone, we had to opt for a 9.10am show instead. Finally got the tickets for 9.10am show for APKGK! :)

About 7.15am:

We succeeded in getting the tickets for the early morning show and now had a question of where to go to pass the time. Thought of going back to our respective rooms and coming back but then we would have to run back in a hurry so we decided to stay there and pass time.

About 8.45am:

Waiting in the lobby for the movie to start. We were actually surprised at the number of people who had turned up for the morning show. I would rather be sleeping than attending a early morning 9am movie show for a ticket worth Rs.120! So here we were, amidst a group of movie goers who had turned up all ready and fresh and we were there without having a bath, in our raincoats! (and Saurabh was all wet in the rain!) :D

About 9.15am:

The movie starts. Sat throughout the movie with my windcheater on as it was very cold in there in the AC and we had just come back from roaming around in rain. :)

About the movie, yeah.. it was sort of time pass. Some  places were very boring and extended for no reason and a few of the gags and jokes were fun to watch. Anyways, whatever the case, KATRINA KAIF was looking gorgeous than ever… and that was enough reason for me to watch the movie! :D :)

About 12pm:

Come out from the movie hall and Citi Centre finally after feeling all-out-of-place over there. ;)

We were waiting some time for a bus but later thought of going back walking as we were already wet in the rain and didn’t care much about clothes getting dirty or anything else! ;) So started walking back to Triplicane from Citi Centre.

Reached the Marina Beach and thought of going to the beach now! :D

About 12.45pm:

On Marina Beach, Varun and Saurabh were having fun in the waves and I was the carry-bag for their valuables as I opted to stay out of the waves!

The best thing was that even though it was about 1.00pm in afternoon, the weather seemed like it was just early morning 7am or so! :)

About 1.30pm:

Finally after this long trip, we were back to our respective rooms….. all drenched! :) Super-tired from the long walk from morning 5.30am, we finally come back.

So, this was it..!! :)

Our early morning crazy trip to the movie was over at last.

It would surely be one of my most memorable movie-going experiences for sure!! :D

PS: And yeah, by the way, the total money spent on this adventure was only Rs.15 per head!

Moral of the story:

Just like the beautiful Asin says in every Mirinda advertisement, “Life mein thodi pagalpanti bhi jaruri hai!!”

\m/ :D \m/

The Haircut…

26 10 2009

Back to my blog and its currently 01.54am right now. Just when I was thinking of going to sleep and thought of updating something on my blog later, I remembered the famous words from Kabirdas

Kal kare so Aaj kar, Aaj kare so Ab!

Pal mein pralay aayegi, to bahuri karoge kab??

And finally, I have landed my self back in front of my computer screen. (Actually, nothing like that, it is just that I thought of updating my blog recently and I observed that I keep on postponing it and then the topic is stale to put it up!!)

So rather, the Kabirdas’ saying turns into

Aaj kare so Kal kar, Kal kare so Parso!

Itni bhi kya jaldi hai, Jeena hai jab Barso!

:D :) :P

Anyways, I’ll start my topic for which I am here before I forget. So, for the past few months, I had got a new fad and thought of growing my hair long. Actually, from my school life till now, I was sort of a guy with decent short hair and never did I care about growing my hair. This time I thought about giving it a try and doing something wierd with my hairstyle. And I finally did.

Thus I started with my long-hair programme simply by not getting a haircut for a long time and then as usual, my hair not being very soft or silky or straight, got messy and tangled. Then one more experiment to do with my hair, I straightened it in some saloon in Mumbai during my vacation and it was somewhat managable again. :)

Back to college, after vacations, everyone found something different with me and got various comments for my new style. :P ;) The hair kept on growing and I didn’t have a thought of shortening it yet.

After few days, due to the wonderful oven where I stay in called Chennai, where it didn’t care to rain yet (except on the day when we were to have our Freshers’ Day function and the rain delayed it and on another day when I planned to go to the beach with a friend and we got drenched there), it was starting to get irritating now. But still, thanks to the working condition of the air-conditioners in my college, I didn’t care about that too. :)

Now the hair is pretty long and first it used to come into my eyes, now it started getting into my mouth! :P The haircare(nothing special that I did for it, but still..) took me longer to get ready every morning and by evening my hair was looking wierder than before! :)

Actually no one here in Chennai cared for my haircut as they know me for a less amount of time than my school friends do. So to add to that, one of my very best friend from my school days had started cursing me the day she saw my hair was longer than usual. Every time I got into some conversation with her, I would get a “abe tu pehle apne baal kata…bahut ganda lag raha hai” dialogue from her! :P And never did I think of listening to her though! ;)

Anyways, finally one day (thats just yesterday!), I thought that I can’t manage this stuff any more and I am going for a haircut finally! :D So, as this was my 2nd attempt to try out a saloon in Chennai, and considering that my first attempt was a disaster which ended up in me looking wierder than before a year back, I thought the best bait would be some costly-looking types saloon where I hoped that I could make them understand better that I want a decent look and not  wierd one! :D Thus I ended up in a very costly-type saloon and had a costly haircut and yeah this time I am not looking wierd(or rather wierder! ;) ).

Hence, this is how finally “mere 5-6 mahine ki mehnat” was chopped of in a matter of minutes and I was left with a “halka halka” feeling on my head! :)

Moral Of the Story:

I bow down to those ladies who maintain their long hair (and yeah most of you do look gorgeous with it :) )

So this stint with my hairstyling made me realise “Saala baal badhane ke liye bhi kya kya papad belne padte hai!!” :P ;)

The past few months…

6 10 2009

As always, I have once again left my blog unattended for quite a while now. Actually speaking, had many things to write about in over here and had a lot of free time too but whenever I sat in front of my computer and thought of logging in, my mood to write was gone.

Anyways, one of my very good friends, Ryan Paul is a new entrant into the blogging world and looking at his new blog, even I finally thought of updating mine. Thanks to Ryan for that! :)

So, after I last updated this place, I was mostly busy with the completion of 2nd year of my college and later I was busy doing nothing much during the vacations. ;) Yeah, got a very long and much needed vacation from college at the end of July which was supposed to be over by the last week of August but the college reopening got post poned and got a few more days of holidays and finally I was back to college on the 7th of Sept.

I agree that the vacation was much needed and the time I got to enjoy was also good enough but the problem was that my vacation started in end-July when all my friends were once again busy with their daily college life. So, the only thing that I missed much this time was roaming around with my friends. Actually can’t say that I missed a lot because, I did got many opportunities to meet up with my friends but still I would have expected for more. :)

Yeah and one of the major opportunity when I got a lot of time to meet up with my friends was when there was all this “Swine-Flu” hype going around. The Swine-Flu was spreading and the News Channels were helping to spread the hype much faster. I could see many people around Mumbai travelling around with masks inorder to shoo away the Swine-Flu. The masks were the hot-selling property in the market for those days and I was wondering whether the designer labels would jump into the market with all their flashy, over-priced, swine-flu masks. I guess they had a potential market out there and they missed out on it now. :( ;)

I am not saying that the disease is not so dangerous and one shouldn’t take care of himself/herself but still the swine-flu era ;) actually was too funny enough experience for me mainly due to all this hype generated around it. The best thing being all my friends getting a week off from their colleges and we could finally meet up and plan for some hanging out. :)

So that was about it during the vacations, and later came Ganesh Chaturthi and thanks to the post-poning of my college reopening day, I could enjoy it to the full extent at my native :)

So, that was mostly about my vacations and later I was back to Chennai. But I think this time it was something different. Usually, whenever I will be returning back from my home, there is always a small amount of sad-feeling of leaving the cozy atmosphere there and going back but this time I think I was more excited to be back in Chennai then staying around at my home. ;)

And thus finally, I am back in Chennai now and starting with my “final” year in the college. Currently we will be starting up with a major project as a part of this final year in the college. As usual, I hope to keep posting more about me and my usual stuff over here… but lets se whether this hope is carried forward to reality!!

“AAKHIR UMEED PE DUNIYA KAYAM HAI!!”

;)

Counter Strike 1.6 map

25 06 2009

WoW! (just an expression…nothing to do with World of Warcraft! :P ) I am back at my blog second consecutive day!!

Well, I just wanted to post the video of the map for Counter Strike 1.6 made by me as a college work.

This map was made on the Valve Hammer Editor 3.4. Actually it has been a long time since I did this job, but uploaded the video just yesterday.

This map was tested by different people in our college during a Counter Strike tournament called manifest which was held on 30th Jan 2009.

This is the link for the pictures of the tourney.

Enjoy the video and the photos until I am back next time with something else! ;)
